Driving Test

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:

Students must be at least 16 years old, hold their permit for a minimum of six months, and have completed their entire driver education program, which includes 32 classroom hours and 14 in-car hours. If you have any questions, please text our office.

DPS REQUIREMENTS FOR TAKING THE ROAD TEST AT DPS MOBILE DRIVING SCHOOL:

Before taking the driving test, you must watch the ‘Impact’ video, which lasts approximately two hours, and print the certificate. The driving test must be taken within 90 days of watching the video. Enter the name of the driving school attended or select the parent-taught option.

Teens from other driving schools or those who are parent-taught can also take the test at our school. However, all teenagers must bring the following items with them when they come to take the test:

  • Permit
  • Driver’s Education Completion Certificate (DE-964) (Not Learner’s License). The certificate must state ‘For Driver’s License Only’ at the top. If the transfer box is checked, please provide the certificate for whoever the hours are transferred to.
  • New VOE Form (Proof of Enrollment from High School, valid for 30 days).
  • 30 Hour Log (30 Hours Behind the Wheel).
  • Proof of Insurance.
  • Impact Video Certificate (link for the video above and on the DPS site).

For Driver’s License Only;

  • New VOE Form: Proof of enrollment from high school, valid for 30 days.
  • 30 Hour Log: 30 hours of behind-the-wheel practice.
  • Proof of Insurance: Must be current and valid.
  • Impact Video Certificate: See the link above or on the DPS site.

Cost: $80 only. If you fail the test, there will be an additional $40 fee (cash only) for each retake, applicable to the second and third attempts. No coins accepted!

Vehicle Requirements:

  • Stickers and car insurance must be current.
  • All brake lights, tail lights, etc., must be functioning properly.
  • License plates are required on both the front and back of the car per Texas law. Please ensure the front license plate is installed if your car didn’t originally come with one.

Post-Test Procedures:

The paperwork will need to be taken to the DPS office in the sealed envelope provided by DPS Mobile Driving School. The DPS will charge a small fee for the photo and issuance of a driver’s license. Note that the driving test is valid for 90 days only.

Testing Day Guidelines:

Please limit the number of people coming for the driving test to the person testing and one family member, as seating is limited. Children must be monitored by parents at all times.
